This is a tough one. Most of the 1890 federal census was destroyed in a 1921 fire at the Commerce Department building in Washington, DC. The census enumerated almost 63 million people but records for only about 6000 survived the fire and water damage. Other records at the federal level, as well as state & city records may help fill this gap but it's a big hole to fill.
